Fall Family Sessions | What to wear | Bobbye Jean Photography

Holy Smokes ladies and gents, we are so close to our fall family mini sessions and I’ve got about 20 messages sitting in the inbox for “what to wear” suggestions. So I thought I would create a little reference for you guys to read through to help out with your search.

First, there will be defiantly two different sets for our Mini sessions. One with the emerald green couch with with white pumpkins and gourds and the other is a distressed white church pew with neutral pillows and a throw blanket. We also just have the natural back ground as well with just the tress and rolling hill in the background.

Here is an example of a few different color patterns to start from. Pallets are very important in elevating your overall style of the session. Out the window with the early 2000s of all white shirts and khakis or black shirts and jeans.  The idea is very simple “coordinate” not match.

The easiest way to start this is with Mom. You get to pick your outfit FIRST. Maybe you have these killer boots you’ve been dying to wear or have a gorgeous flowy dress that hides everything you’ve been wanting to hide. You will feel so much more comfortable in your session if you choose your wardrobe first, then play the rest of the fam bam off of you.

So maybe your dress has a pattern in it. AWESOME! So find colors in that pattern to play off of with the kiddos shirts and dads.

Maybe you don’t have a pattern, and that’s ok! I would pick someone in the family to wear pattern and play off of those colors.

Choosing patterns for pictures sometimes can be tricky, Always choose a larger pattern/print because in digital photography the camera does not pick up pinstripes or very small checks very well and can cause chromatic aberrations.

It’s ok to mix and match pattern, maybe someone is wearing plaid? It’s ok to throw a floral or even cheetah print in there as long as it coordinates.

Don’t forget accessions, this could be fury vests, blankets, scarfs, floppy hats (no ball caps for dad, pretty please) nice cowboy hats are always welcomed though!

I just love how Amy styled her family! Mix and matching textures and patterns helps them stand out as a family.

Don’t forget the pros when it comes to hair and makeup! Besides why not pamper yourself every once and a while!

Here and here are the links to my Pinterest Boards that I love for your sessions this fall!

I know this all seems a little over whelming but wardrobe really does matter and will impact how your images turn out in the end. Feel free to shoot me an email with you wardrobe options and I can help you choose. I hope all of this helps! See you soon!!

xoxo BOBBYE JEAN
